Dispatch from the Matrix: Griffyndor and The Gates

Here at the Grimoire, we love the language of symbols, signs, and visual semiotics.  Because of this, over the years we’ve developed a keen sense of visual pattern mapping – finding visual ques between seemingly disparate graphic elements.  Some of what we discover seems intentional, some seems created by our own meanderings through the noo-sphere.  Regardless, we find it all interesting and wanted to share a little thing we discovered today watching the Harry Potter marathon on ABC.

We just stumbled across this image while watching the first Harry Potter movie.

These banners unfurl in the dining hall when Dumbledore somewhat cruelly strips Slytherin of the House Cup and gives it to Griffyndor.  I find an interesting correlation between these banners and the image below.

This is The Gates, a work of art by Christo and Jeanne-Claude. They set up 17,503 vinyl "gates" along 23 miles (37 km) of pathways in Central Park in New York City. From each gate hung a panel of deep saffron-colored nylon fabric. The exhibit ran from February 12, 2005 through February 27, 2005.

It also reminded me of this:

These are monks during the 2007 Burmese anti-government protests.   These were a series of anti-government protests that started in Burma (also known as Union of Myanmar) on August 15, 2007.  Some news reports referred to the protests as the Saffron Revolution.

We’ve talked about  Myanmar and The Gates before so I won’t go into much detail, other than to re-mention the fact that orange, or saffron stands for enlightenment – I’m guessing it has something to do with the color of the sun.  What is new in the equation is the Harry Potter banners as a symbol for a change in power from Slytherin (reptiles) to Griffyndor (the sun).

This plays directly into the "change of power" scenario I’ve talked about in this blog before.

We personally see the change of power in a mishmash of real and symbolic terms.  It goes like this: the reptiles are being removed from power (we see this in the symbolic dismantling of the catholic church, or as Slytherin’s banners being replaced with Griffyndor’s) , and the monkeys and insects are taking over.

Insects are symbolic of the Chinese.  One need only listen to the insect drone of buddhist monk chants to get a clue to this.  Monkeys are Freemasons that believe in ancient egyptian sun magick.  This change in power is an evolution that is symbolized by orange – the orange of the sun, the orange of a buddhist robe.

Harry Potter’s constant battle with the evil wizard, Voldemort, is but one metaphorical aspect of this narrative as it is currently playing out across the noo-sphere.
