What Halloween would be complete without a little cosmic horror – the idea that life is ultimately incomprehensible to human minds and that the universe is fundamentally alien? Those who genuinely reason, like his protagonists, gamble with their very sanity – which they often loose.
Lovecraft has developed a cult following for his Cthulhu Mythos, a series of loosely interconnected fictions featuring a pantheon of human-nullifying entities, as well as the Necronomicon, a fictional grimoire of magical rites and forbidden lore. His works were deeply pessimistic and cynical, challenging the values of Enlightenment, Romanticism, and Christian humanism.
Lovecraft’s protagonists usually achieve the mirror-opposite of traditional gnosis and mysticism by momentarily glimpsing the horror of ultimate reality. Perfect for Halloween.
Let’s start with two links.
These are some AMAZING lectures on H.P. Lovecraft by Dr. Justin Woodman. Very intelligent discussion about all aspects of Lovecrafts work by a college professor:

Now onto the really good stuff.
British Audio Documentary on H.P. Lovecraft
This is the first part of a British audio interview with Poet and Critic Jeff Ward, Professor of Literature at the University of Dundee. This is a feature from the BBC. Wonderful interview / audio essay that any fan of Lovecraft will like.
Byakhee Byakhee
Wonderfully twisted Broadway style song about flying with an Old God
Hey There Chthulhu
Hi-larious folk song about Chthulhu by Eben Brooks. Definitely check ths one out.
A Shoggoth on the Roof
A puppet show version of the famous (famous?) musical, A Shoggoth on the Roof. The video quality is terrible, but I thought I would put it up because. . . well, because it’s a musical based on the work of H.P. Lovecraft. You can always just listen to the audio. Enjoy!
I Had a Shoggoth
Another VERY fun song about the works of H.P. Lovecraft. This is perhaps the greatest Halloween song I’ve ever heard.
Check back because we will be featuring a new audio or video download each day. They will all be GREAT and well worth your while. We will also be listing them all on the following page:
